The next energy battle?: Landscape conservationists launch initiatives against wind energy

Anyone who wants to build a wind farm in Switzerland probably knows Elias Vogt (28). Fear Elias Vogt. De Grenchener is chairman of Free Landscape Switzerland. The association is mainly opposed to the expansion of wind energy and combats it with objections and political means. Now Vogt and his colleagues are going one step further. On Monday morning they invite you to a media conference to launch two popular initiatives. They want to “protect nature and communities from the danger of wind turbines in forests and in the immediate vicinity of the residential areas of many people in Switzerland,” as the invitation states.

At the request of Blick, the initiators do not want to take a closer look at the maps. The invitation states that the protection of nature and the rights of people in communities are threatened by more than 300 wind farm projects in Switzerland.

Next energy battle

Federal Councilor and Minister of Energy Albert Rösti (56) is already facing the next challenge. The vote against the energy envelope decree, which Rösti absolutely wants to win, will start soon. His opponent will then include landscape conservationist Vogt – with whom he is on a first-name basis, as the ‘NZZ’ writes.

The opponents of the landscape had to tremble during the referendum on the coat decree, but clearly received the necessary signatures. On Friday, the Federal Chancellery announced that 63,277 valid signatures had been collected. 50,000 were needed.

After that, the discussion about new nuclear power plants is likely to gain momentum when the so-called blackout initiative is submitted. Followed by the anti-wind energy initiatives, provided that opponents collect the necessary 100,000 signatures.

Rösti himself recently admitted at an electricity industry conference that he was not known as a “wind fan”. At the same time, Rösti mentions at every opportunity that Switzerland needs more electricity. (brother)
