The SVP bases its election campaign on the energy crisis. At the delegates’ meeting in the Lucerne district of Reussbühl, “Left-Green” was described as the main opponent to be defeated.
SVP chairman Marco Chiesa (48) got the party base in the mood for the election campaign with a massive attack on everything “left-green”. “Our free country will go to the dogs if we fail to stop the left-green advance,” he said.
SVP wants to increase by 100,000 votes
The SVP used energy and climate policy as a prime example for the alleged “Kamikaze policy of the Left-Green”. The energy crisis is not the result of the war in Ukraine, but homemade, said national councilor Christian Imark (40) from Solothurn.
In the last National Council elections, the SVP lost partisan power, while the Greens and Green Liberals gained ground. By 2023, the right-wing party aims to get another 100,000 votes, the campaign leadership told delegates.
Applause for Ueli Maurer
Marco Chiesa thanked federal councilor Ueli Maurer (71), who recently announced his resignation. This was a black day for Switzerland, Chiesa said. Maurer was one of the best federal councilors Switzerland had ever had. The delegates rose to applaud their Bundesrat. He promised that even after his time as a federal councilor, he would contribute to the spread of the SVP virus. This makes you happy, that’s why you don’t need a mouth cap or vaccination.
The successor to federal councilor Ueli Maurer was not an official topic at the delegate meeting. (lazy/SDA)
