Now he wants to know: Nils Fiechter (27) wants to become party chairman of the Young SVP Switzerland (JSVP). The Bern section of the Young Party nominated its co-chair as a candidate for the national party chairmanship on Wednesday evening.

The Bernese JSVP members are also putting Stephanie Gartenmann (21) in the running for the position of general secretary. She is the daughter of Werner Gartenmann, the director of “Pro Schweiz”.

“I have the necessary intelligence”

Last week it was announced that current president David Trachsel (29) would not stand for re-election in next March’s general elections, after four years at the helm of the party.

As municipal administrator of the municipality of Oberwil in the Bernese Oberland, Fiechter considers himself ideally suited for the position: “Not least thanks to my almost five years in office, I have the necessary intelligence for the problems of normal-thinking people,” said the militia politician tells Blick.

The militia system in particular is a cause that he wants to vigorously advocate in his possible new role. And he calls this his top priority: “I am making myself available as president of the JSVP to stop the development from a militia to a professional parliament,” he explains.

Always good for headlines

For example, Fiechter goes on to say that he wants to stop the escalation of the pay of the “political elite” and force the people’s representatives to keep one foot in their professional lives, so that they do not lose touch with the reality of society. citizens.

In recent years, Fiechter has repeatedly made headlines across Switzerland with provocative statements. In 2022, he was convicted of racial discrimination together with the co-chairman of the JSVP Bern, Adrian Spahr (29). The Federal Court upheld the decision of the lower courts.

For the Bernese Oberlander, part of the political game is that the young party can be more rebellious and bold than its parent party with government responsibility. Fiechter: “As a young party, we put our finger on the sore points and tell the truth, even if it hurts.”
