After his surprising visit to Ukraine on Thursday, Federal President Ignazio Cassis (61) traveled on to neighboring Moldova. There he will meet President Maia Sandu (50) on Friday in the capital Chisinau. Then he travels back to Switzerland.
Cassis will talk to the Moldovan president about the consequences of the war for her country and the humanitarian situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EDA) said Friday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Next week in Berlin
This Tuesday, Cassis will participate in the reconstruction conference in Berlin. According to the FDFA, he will provide information about the trip to Ukraine and the reconstruction conference at a point de press.
Cassis entered Ukraine for the first time since Russia on Thursday. In the capital Kiev he met his counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky (44), Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal (47) and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba (41).
MPs too
A year after his last visit to Kiev, he wanted to get a picture of the war situation, the humanitarian situation and the preparatory work for the reconstruction of the country, Cassis wrote on Twitter.
The Cassis delegation also included several MPs, namely Marianne Binder (64, centre) and Member of Parliament Mathias Zopfi (38, Greens). Also in attendance were Patricia Danzi (53), head of the Development and Cooperation Directorate, and Dominique Paravicini (55), delegate of the Federal Council for Trade Agreements.
