The beginning of the end for his party?: Jositsch gives up the leadership of the SP Council of States

Kä Luscht: Daniel Jositsch has resigned as leader of the SP Council of States.

Daniel Jositsch (58) no longer leads the SP faction in the Council of States. He has given up this position, the CH Media newspapers report. Bernese state councilor Flavia Wasserfallen (44) confirmed to the newspaper that she was elected the new group leader on December 4 and would officially take over the office next Monday.

The SP is already speculating that this could be a first step by Jositsch to isolate himself from his party. There is great disappointment about the behavior of the man from Zurich.

SP fears Jositsch’s departure

He received 70 votes in the Federal Council elections last Wednesday, although his party did not propose him as an official candidate for the ticket. He angered his comrades again. Because, just like with the election to succeed Simonetta Sommaruga (63), he has not declared that he will not stand for election.

What happened behind the scenes
This is how the 70 Jositsch votes came about

The comrades are now afraid that Jositsch will leave the party. Because: This would mean that the SP would lose the committee seats it occupies. These mandates have recently been assigned and committee seats are personal. The Zurich Council of States sits on four committees and is part of a delegation.

However, it is far from clear whether Jositsch will actually leave the SP. There is a possibility that he will join other political groups – such as the Greens or the Centre.

Greens: “We don’t have conversations”

However, members of the Green faction deny that they are currently in discussions with Jositsch, CH Media further writes. And Mitte President Gerhard Pfister (61) says that party membership should be based on certain values, and not on optimizing career opportunities.

There is still hope that the broken ‘marriage’ can be restored: behind the scenes, however, people are looking for a basis with the Zurich resident. No one can forgive him at this point, they say discussions are needed. (oco)
