Established in August 2022: Bern government abolishes special staff for energy shortages

The danger of energy shortage has been averted for the time being. (symbol image)

There are no immediate signs of a shortage for the winter of 2023/2024. Compared to last winter, the situation has relaxed.

The special staff was established in August 2022. A little later, two packages of energy-saving measures were approved in the cantonal administration and in the education sector. For example, the room temperature was lowered, hot water consumption was limited and the outdoor lighting was switched off.

In the spring of 2023, the special staff temporarily ceased their work after the situation had relaxed. The packages of measures have been suspended. They will now be completely lifted, as the government council has further announced.

Individual energy saving obviously remains sensible and necessary. The government council therefore advises not to heat more than necessary, to avoid continuous ventilation and to turn off the lights in unused rooms. (SDA)
