The SVP asks the police to impose fewer fines on drivers. She wants to reduce the corresponding budget item by 30 million francs. In return, she demands more checks on bicycle traffic, with which she hopes to generate another 5 million euros in fine revenue.
The SVP justifies that fines should be imposed where they serve road safety. Parking buses should be avoided; instead, dangerous drivers and cyclists should be monitored.
The SVP and FDP also demand that planned compost inspections by private individuals be abandoned. Just like on the first Budget Day on Wednesday, these proposals from the city council will probably not succeed.
The SP, Greens and AL, who have a narrow majority, will probably also see other concerns raised, such as more bicycle sheds and more trees. The budget debate is rescheduled until Thursday around midnight. It is still uncertain whether there will be enough time to complete it by then. (SDA)
