After the Dubai conference: Switzerland welcomes new recommendations on climate protection

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 fmXrkB”>

Switzerland welcomes the climate protection recommendations adopted at the 28th UN Conference on Climate Change.

The recommendations drawn up by states were aimed at pursuing the objectives of the 2015 Paris Agreement, the Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) said. The recommendation to expand renewable energy sources and energy efficiency applies until 2030 and the recommendation to phase out coal, oil and gas applies by 2050. The latter is new.

The ground rules for the fund for climate-related losses and damage were also set at COP28, the report said. This is intended to support the poorest countries particularly affected by climate change. Switzerland is also contributing to international climate finance by providing financial support to a network of UN institutions and NGOs. These provide technical assistance in disaster areas.
