Residents of Payerne VD are angry: the feared noise from fighter jets is causing problems

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 fmXrkB”>

The feared noise pollution from the Swiss army’s new F-35A fighter plane is causing dissatisfaction among the residents of the Payerne VD military airport. An advocacy group representing neighboring communities is “very disappointed and extremely concerned” by the latest report on noise pollution from the operation of the new aircraft.

Moreover, the Association pour la sauvegarde des interêts des communes broyardes touchées par l’aérodrome Militaire de Payerne (ASIC) criticizes that it does not feel seen as a partner in the relevant discussions with Bern. ‘That’s a catastrophe. We are not at all satisfied with what has been presented to us today regarding the short report from two years ago,” Cédric Péclard told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday.

The chairman of the interest group and the municipality of Les Montets FR responded on Thursday evening to corresponding information from the Federal Ministry of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS).

“Many villages will be affected”

«The isophone curve continues to rise. The noise register and the 60 decibel limit are the most problematic. Many villages will be very or even completely affected by this nuisance curve, and this will cause problems for the planning and development of their territory,” explains Péclard. “The value of plots and buildings per square meter will decline, not to mention the quality of life of residents,” he added.

A meeting with the VBS is planned for December 21. The interest group wants to express its “dissatisfaction”, but also tries to be better involved in future discussions instead of being presented with a fait accompli.

The expectation is that the new 36 F-35A fighter jets will defend Swiss airspace from 2030. They will replace the F/A-18s, which have been in service since 1997. (SDA)
