In the race for the Federal Council seat of the outgoing SP magistrate Alain Berset (51), the official SP candidates Beat Jans (59) and Jon Pult (39) are involved in a tough battle. With Jan’s advantage, that is the current status.

But in the shadow of the red duo is a third candidate: the Green National Councilor Gerhard Andrey (47). His chances are slim. Although the SP and GLP factions will listen to him, he only received rejections from the FDP, the Center and the SVP.

But now the door at the SVP is slightly open. At least in a small circle there is a meeting between Andrey and the SVP leadership.

Coffee break together

For example, party chairman Marco Chiesa (49) and faction leader Thomas Aeschi (44) met the green challenger Andrey for discussion on Tuesday morning during the session. “We drink coffee together,” Chiesa tells Blick. The invitation came from Andrey. And for the sake of decency they accepted this.

However, Andrey should not have high expectations that the SVP will rely on him next. Because officially this still applies to the SVP. “We only vote for someone on the official SP ticket,” Chiesa makes clear. “I know nothing of any secret plan or other political maneuvers.”

fueled speculation

Even though Chiesa wants nothing to do with games, the SVP is very dissatisfied with the SP ticket. Pult and Jans are so close politically that they actually have no choice, SVP parliamentarians complain. Some are toying with voting for the Greens instead of an SP candidate. Also because the vacant Berset seat can only be awarded in the last election round and is therefore not possible to return.

Moreover, Andrey avoids giving a clear answer to the question of whether he would accept an election at the expense of the SP. Some ordinary people would still like to drive a wedge into the red-green camp.

The speculation is spreading even further: some SVP members might be tempted, even during the confirmation election of Ignazio Cassis (62), to write Andrey to the list in order to teach the Tessin a lesson and put the FDP in his place as a pillar of support. junior partner point.

And there is speculation about an even wilder scenario: that Andrey would first be elected at the expense of Cassis, but that the Ticino native could then be voted back into office if Berset succeeds him. To put the FDP and the SP in the spotlight at the same time.
