The regulations to cover the costs of the Covid-19 vaccination apply until the end of 2023. In order to continue to keep access to the vaccination accessible, the Federal Council has extended the measure, it said in a statement. The costs would be borne by compulsory health insurance, the federal government and the cantons.
The Federal Council writes that vaccination against Covid-19 still offers good protection against serious diseases, hospitalizations and death. It remains a central element in preventing serious illness for people who are particularly at risk.
According to the Federal Council, the vaccination supply in general practices, hospitals or vaccination centers is sufficient to vaccinate people at increased risk. Therefore, from the beginning of 2024, the federal government will no longer cover the costs of vaccinations in pharmacies.
From mid-2024, the Federal Council assumes that the free market can guarantee demand. From that moment on, the federal government will no longer cover the costs of the vaccination.
At the same time, the Federal Council approved a draft on Wednesday to amend the Epidemics Act. Above all, the lessons from the corona pandemic must be taken into account. (SDA)
