Local mood: Hochdorf LU follows the city council on climate initiatives

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 fmXrkB”>

The voters in Hochdorf have decided at the latest when the water should be heated ecologically.

The initiative “Hochdorf heats renewable energy sources – especially from 2030” was rejected by 1,837 votes to 535. The city council’s counter-proposal, which set the deadline for phasing out fossil fuels to 2040, was approved by 1,226 votes to 1,102.

The sovereign also rejected the initiative “Hochdorf is ready for zero-emission vehicles” by 1,824 votes to 548. This required basic infrastructure for charging electric cars to be established in garages of apartment buildings with at least five parking spaces. There was no counter-proposal, but the municipality had announced that it would support the charging infrastructure with 50,000 francs annually.

The two initiatives were declared invalid by the municipality and the subdistrict court because they violated the rights of the homeowners. The Federal Court contradicted this, so the community had to vote on the referendum.

The municipality has rejected the combustion initiative with a deadline of 2030 because the homeowners would then have to pay high compensation. If the deadline is 2040, there would be less burden on the community because only some oil heating systems would not have reached the end of their life by then. The initiators argued that 2040 would be too late for effective climate protection.

The municipality has rejected the charging station initiative because it rejects coercion and prefers financing. However, for the initiators, the promised financing of 50,000 francs is insufficient and the development of the charging infrastructure is therefore proceeding too slowly. (SDA)
