The SP is counting on a duo in the elections for the Federal Council. On Friday, the parliamentary group decided to participate in the December 13 Federal Council elections on a two-party ticket.
It was expected that the party would choose this option. Finally, the SP party council, the party parliament, as it were, also voted in favor of a two-member selection on Thursday. A three-way ticket would also have been conceivable.
Thanks to the two-party ticket, the SP can better control who actually ends up in the Federal Council. With a three-party ticket, the other parties would have more power and could force a candidate on the SP who had less support in the faction.
The SP has not yet clarified the most important question, namely which two candidates will be on the ticket. This decision won’t be made until tomorrow morning. The group wants to provide information during lunch.
The SP parliamentarians must choose from six candidates. The Zurich SP Council of States Daniel Jositsch (58), the Basel district president Beat Jans (59), the Graubünden national councilor Jon Pult (39), the Berne councilor Evi Allemann (45), the Berne national councilor Matthias Aebischer (56 ) and the National Council of Vaud, Roger Nordmann (50).
