The canton council approved by 89 votes to 74 a parliamentary initiative (PI) by the FDP and SVP to submit a professional initiative to the federal government.
According to supporters of the initiative, the more frequent Sunday sales are intended to strengthen stationary retail compared to online retail. In addition, jobs must be secured.
However, outside the FDP, SVP and GLP, the PI knew little love. It was said that only major providers would benefit from this, if at all. However, for small, independent businesses, it’s not worth it.
The government council has spoken out in favor of the PI. After approval by the canton council, he will now submit a corresponding professional initiative to the federal government.
