Gerhard Andrey, despite slim odds, you are running for the Federal Council as a Green: Why are you doing this to yourself?
Gerard Andrej: Calling something impossible is often an excuse for not daring to do it. That rarely convinced me. Mathematically and politically, the Greens’ claim is clear. And these are elections for total renewal. This means that the sitting members of the government are also candidates and must stand for election.

What is your favorite game?
Hairdresser Jacket. The name comes from the French for “quoi faire?”.

Have you ever had therapy?
Unfortunately there are many. When I was young, I had very serious back problems and therefore had to visit doctors and therapists very often. Fortunately, things have calmed down in recent years.

Even as a primary school student I wanted to become a carpenter. I then also trained as a carpenter.

What do you spend the most money on?
For eating and eating out. As a family, we find local, seasonal and organic food very important. Organic and artisanal rather than industrially produced foods have a slightly higher price. In return, we are assured that nature will not be harmed and that farming families from the region will earn a decent income. That’s worth a lot! Even if it is at the expense of the holiday budget.

My idyll: Every summer I spend a few days in the very remote, arid Geissendorf in the Ticino Alps to cycle down or up a pass.

What are you currently learning that you are not very good at yet?
The fact that there should be other topics at the family table than politics – my children really challenge me in this regard.
