The previous ones in Valais are clearly leading the way

In the canton of Valais, everything points to a re-election of the two previous middle council members. After counting 112 of the 122 municipalities, Beat Rieder (41,776 votes) and Marianne Maret (37,747 votes) are well ahead of FDP challenger Philippe Nantermod (18,550 votes).

FDP-Broulis is ahead of the Greens-Mahaim in Vaud

In the canton of Vaud, FDP candidate Pascal Broulis is ahead of Green Raphaël Mahaim in the second round of the elections for the Council of States, after half of the votes have been counted. The former finance minister currently has 57.9 percent of the vote, while the Green National Council has 40.5 percent of the vote.

According to these preliminary results, more than 13,000 votes separate the two candidates in the second round. Voter turnout currently stands at 37.5 percent. However, most major cities have not yet been included.

Pierre-Yves Maillard, SP national councilor and chairman of the Swiss Trade Union Confederation (SGB), was elected to the Council of States in the first round of voting on October 22.

End of the live ticker

In the canton of Geneva, no one was elected in the first round. There was a surprise earlier: Mauro Poggia (64), former government member of Geneva and politician of the Mouvement Citoyens Genevois (MCG), overshadowed previous councilors Lisa Mazzone (35, Greens) and Carlo Sommaruga (64, SP). The common people now see a good opportunity to stop this dominance.

Challenger Poggia and Céline Amaudruz (44) of the SVP will compete against the previous red-green duo. One thing is clear: the left, which has represented Geneva unchallenged in the small chamber since 2007, wants to defend its two seats.

Surprise also possible in Freiburg

In the second round of voting for the Council of States in Valais, FDP state councilor Philippe Nantermod (39) is challenging the two previous candidates, Beat Rieder (60) and Marianne Maret (65), from the middle. Overthrowing this bastion will be difficult given the results of the first round.

In the second round of the elections for the Council of States in the canton of Friborg, three candidates compete against each other. The two previous councilors Isabelle Chassot (58, center) and Johanna Gapany (35, FDP) are the favorites in the race, while Alizée Rey (36, SP) could provide a surprise.

The election for the second seat of the Vaud Council of States will see a duel between the FDP politician Pascal Broulis (58) and the Green Raphaël Mahaim (39). Broulis starts the race as favorite. Pierre-Yves Maillard (55), SP national councilor and president of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB), was elected to the Council of States in the first round of voting on October 22.
