Berset and the Pope wanted to talk about how Switzerland and the Vatican could best support peace efforts, for example in Colombia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the EDI wrote. The exchange stems from conversations Berset had with church representatives in the DRC and Colombia.
This is not Berset’s first meeting with Francis. In 2018, in Berset’s first year as federal president, Berset visited the Pope in the Vatican. Also in 2018, Berset met the Pope in Geneva during his trip to Switzerland.
After the visit, Berset travels to Paris. According to his department, several summits are planned there on Thursday and Friday as part of the Paris Peace Forum.
