Out of time? Are you kidding, are you serious when you say that? The community day tickets are still popular.

All day in Switzerland for just a penny – and without a ticket for half the price: the municipal day tickets are popular. The communities sold 1.5 million units annually. Funded by taxpayers.

This is over with the timetable change in December. The SBB and other public transport companies are abolishing community day tickets. They want to replace it with a new system that should deliver benefits for everyone involved.

Reimann submits proposal

But the project met resistance from the start. In eastern Switzerland, local politicians have come together to form an impartial committee. It is supported by numerous national politicians, mainly national councilors of the SVP. But Mitte President Gerhard Pfister (61) also defends himself against the plans of the public transport sector.

Because they and the association of municipalities and cities are sticking to the plan, SVP Landraad Lukas Reimann (41) now wants to put the rescue of the day ticket on the parliamentary agenda. He announces that he will submit a proposal. “The day that GA is a very popular part of Switzerland and has provided thousands of people with affordable and uncomplicated mobility,” he says.

Without a half-rate card it will be more expensive

The new savings day card, which will be available from December, can still be purchased at the community counter. It no longer matters whether you live in the community or not. The ticket, now also available electronically, is personalized. What is also new is that a certain quota per day applies throughout Switzerland.

But the biggest change is in the price. For half-fare cardholders, a 2nd class day ticket now costs 39 francs throughout Switzerland, or 59 francs if purchased less than ten days before the date of travel. All others pay 52 or 88 francs.

Marc Manhart (28), SVP member and one of the initiators of the rescue committee, criticizes the new solution as too complicated. “The municipalities are angry about the extra effort.” Some municipalities have even announced that they will not offer the new savings cards for this reason.
