Local vote in Bern: Yes committee launches vote on the Untermatt playground

The proposal will be presented to the voters of the city of Bern on November 19. The referendum was called by an impartial committee with SVP, GLP and Center because the price of 3.52 million francs for the purchase of the property on Looslistrasse was too high for them.

The Yes Committee sees it differently. The right to play is a central child’s right and fundamental to growing up together, according to a press release on Wednesday.

The neighborhood is characterized by affordable housing mixed with commercial use. Living conditions are tight. Everything will one day be possible on the plot: a playground, greenery, a neighborhood square, a meeting point, benches, a place to play football and celebrate.

“Many people find their first home here after migrating,” says Nanthini Murugaverl of the Untermatt neighborhood association. “Untermatt needs a place where everyone feels welcome.”

With the purchase, the city will receive an important plot of land in a development area, according to the yes committee. Buying land is a future-oriented and safe investment. The plot is now used as open space. However, it remains a residential area and, depending on long-term development, could later be used for housing.

The Yes Committee includes the SP, Green Alliance, GFL, EVP, Junge Alternative, PdA and Alternative Links, as well as various organizations, including the Untermatt district association, the Bümpliz-Bethlehem district committee and the umbrella organization for open work with children in the city ​​of Bern.

The land belongs to the Galenica pharmacy group. There is now a parking lot at this location. (SDA)
