Four years ago, the green wave had brutal consequences for many sitting parliamentarians: dozens of politicians had to pack their bags in 2019. Now that the pendulum is swinging back, the SVP is making significant gains, while the Greens are losing massively. This means the end of the Bundestag, especially for many green politicians.

Blick provides an overview of who – so far – should take off the hat.

The Greens must give up

The Greens are having to give up, and some newcomers who were elected four years ago have already had to leave office: Kurt Egger (67) in Thurgau, Valentine Python (48) in Vaud and Isabelle Pasquier (50) in Geneva. More Greens will follow during the evening, because the seats in Zurich and Bern are also shaking.

In addition, the only communist in the Federal Palace, PdA national councilor Denis de la Reussille (62, NE), must give up his mandate – he belongs to the Green parliamentary group.

GLP weakens

Not only weakening the Greens, but also the Green Liberals. With consequences: GLP Councilor Roland Fischer (58, LU) loses his mandate. Again because he had to deal with an elimination in 2015 before making his comeback four years ago.

The GLP national councilors François Pointet (54, VD) and Michel Matter (58, GE) are also expelled from parliament.

SP has registered one deselection so far

Even in the SP, earlier people have to jump over the edge. In Freiburg, national councilor Ursula Schneider Schüttel loses her mandate – and with it the chairman of the nature conservation organization Pro Natura.

SVP colleague catches up with previous one

In the SVP of Geneva, National Councilor Thomas Bläsi (52) is overtaken by a party colleague and therefore has to leave his seat.

FDP loses Council of States

In the canton of Neuchâtel there was a big surprise: FDP state councilor Philippe Bauer (61) loses his seat. The working group of the corporate audit committees, which is investigating the Corona leaks, must look for a new president.

In Vaud, FDP national councilor Daniel Ruch (60) has been voted out. But he can hope that he will make progress again soon, because his party colleague Pascal Broulis (58) has a good chance of being elected as a member of the Council of States in the second round. Alexandre Berthoud (46, VD), on the other hand, has to take off his hat.

Center gives up Stöckli seat

In Schwyz, the center is facing a setback: it is over for center councilor Othmar Reichmuth (59) after a legislature in Bern.

EPP: Party leader is thrown out

Election Sunday is bitter for the small EPP party: In Aargau, EPP national councilor Lilian Studer (45) suffered the same fate as her father Heiner Studer (74), who missed re-election as national councilor in 2007. Of all people, Lilian Studer is the national party leader to be expelled from parliament.
