This is how the day goes

If you haven’t voted yet, hurry up for Sunday brunch. The urns are open until 12 noon.

After that it goes quickly. Research institute GFS delivers the first trends just in time for lunch. Small cantons in particular, such as Nidwalden, Appenzell as well as Uri, could deliver the results in the first hours after the polling stations close.

The first projection will be available for snacks at 4 p.m. It shows who will likely have to bite the bullet. Immediately afterwards, the party leaders classify the results in Blick TV’s elephant group.

In between there are ongoing results, so decisions in the cantons of Solothurn, Graubünden and Basel Landschaft are expected in the afternoon.

The second projection will follow at 6 p.m., just in time for dinner. Then it becomes clear for the first time what the distribution of seats in the new parliament could be.

By the evening, results will come from the larger cantons such as Aargau, Lucerne and Basel Stadt, before the third projection comes at 8pm Tatort time – at the same time as results from Zurich.

It is almost traditional for the cantons of Bern and Vaud to argue about who is at the bottom of the list. Who will be the last to deliver Bedmünpfeli the results? Or will it even be a midnight snack?

Welcome

Switzerland elects a new parliament. In a few hours we will know who will represent us in Bern in the future. In the live ticker you will find all the results from the cantons, as well as forecasts, background information and analyses.

End of the live ticker

The election posters are in tatters, just like the nerves of the party strategists. After a long and strenuous election campaign, Switzerland elects a new parliament. The Greens in particular have started to tremble; many of their national councilors fear being dismissed by the people without notice. In the last election barometer they lost 3.5 percentage points. After the historic high in 2019, the party around President Balthasar Glättli (51) will probably collapse on Sunday. But how deep?

The expert opinion
Longchamp to the elections
“The middle could become the new heavyweight in the center”

Mittebaas Gerhard Pfister (61) can keep the champagne cold. He has merged the party with the BDP over the past four years and freed it from the Christian C in its name. If he overtakes the FDP around President Thierry Burkart (48) for the first time in the history of the Confederation, there may be a prayer of thanksgiving to heaven. But is it really enough? The latest polls indicate a neck-and-neck race.

After the losses four years ago, the SVP and the SP were able to celebrate again. Your issues of migration (SVP) and purchasing power (SP) are apparently popular again with voters. Can they also convert that into chairs?

Who must leave their seat?

And there are also exciting decisions in the 26 cantons. For example in Basel-Stadt, where five previous candidates are competing for four seats. Or in Zurich, where Nicolas Rimoldi (28), the best-known critic of the corona measures, was allowed to enter parliament.
