No vote: committee withdraws landscape initiative and relies on the law

The landscape initiative is conditionally withdrawn. However, the initiative committee insists on strict implementation of the new spatial planning law adopted by parliament. (archive image)

The sponsoring association ‘Yes to more nature, landscape and building culture’, which is behind the initiative, announced this on Thursday. Thanks to the initiative, the House of Representatives has included one of the main objectives of the initiators in the Spatial Planning Act: stabilizing the number of buildings outside the development area.

The initiative committee decided by a large majority to conditionally withdraw its request. However, it does want to monitor how the responsible authorities deal with the legally possible special zones for additional renovations of existing buildings.

The cantons may only exclude such zones if biodiversity, building culture and the landscape benefit from it, the committee writes. The sponsors of the initiative want to become politically active again if necessary. (SDA)
