There is great concern for Thierry Baudet in the House of Representatives. In an interview with an American website, the FvD boss describes himself as a conspiracy theorist. He says the world is ruled by “evil reptiles” and believes Russian President Putin deserves every support in the war against Ukraine.
D66 party leader Paternotte calls Baudet’s theories crazy on Twitter. “One would almost laugh about it. But it’s bloody connected. This man leads a parliamentary group in our parliament, makes himself the representative of the Kremlin and thus undermines European security.”
Party leader Segers from ChristenUnie finds Baudet’s comments too crazy to put into words. “Here – I’m afraid – reason no longer helps, here perhaps only prayer can help.”
Baudet’s interview appeared yesterday on Twitter with the American website Geopolitics & Empire. In it, the chairman of the Forum for Democracy spreads a conspiracy theory by the British writer and Holocaust denier David Icke, according to which world domination is being taken over by “reptiles”. disguised as humans and trying to get their way.
“I believe we are being ruled by a global conspiracy of evil reptiles,” Baudet said. “But I don’t think national politicians are part of the conspiracy. As a friend of mine said, they’re so stupid you don’t even have to bribe them. I think so.” He adds that he is always disappointed with the level of “our opponents”. “Why are they such fools?”
Baudet also reiterates that he is a fan of Vladimir Putin, whom he sees as “the hero we need.” According to him, the Russian president is the only one taking on the small elite that is in control. He believes Putin should win the war against Ukraine and says “we must do everything we can to support him”.
Independent Senator Henk Otten – who co-founded the Forum for Democracy with Baudet but left with a dispute – agrees with Paternotte. He thinks the party should be banned. “I’ve been saying that for ages. This is completely derailed and will never get better.
Incidentally, Baudet himself responded to the excitement by saying that the reptiles he was talking about were “of course” a metaphor. “Those who do this to us are some kind of brutes, reptilians, machines.
