Four German-speaking Swiss want to become the successor to SP federal councilor Alain Berset from Monday afternoon. As Blick has made public, a Romand is now also involved: ex-party leader Roger Nordmann (50) will smuggle his name into the Goblet of Fire on Wednesday – as Harry Potter fans claim. The media conference will take place at 10:15 am in Bern.

While magic student Potter was actually too young to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, some SP supporters are bothered by the fact that Nordmann is applying as Romand for a seat in German-speaking Switzerland. But unlike Hogwarts, the rules in Federal Bern are not as strict.

Stand up against KKS

The glasses-wearing man with the shaggy haircut – Nordmann, not Potter – would be a match for the powerful in the Federal Council, FDP woman Karin Keller-Sutter (59). Since Berset’s resignation announcement, she was finally considered the strongest member of the Federal Council.

The SP candidate and government chairman of Basel, Beat Jans (59), on the other hand, is considered conflict-averse. It is uncertain whether he would become a strong federal councilor. Matthias Aebischer (55) from Bern is also more concerned about the balance sheet. Not everyone in parliament believes that the National Councilor and former television personality would be able to resist Keller-Sutter – and depending on the party, that is exactly why they would or would not vote for him if he were to get the SP ticket .

Jositsch barely makes it to the ticket

Zurich’s SP state councilor Daniel Jositsch (58) will likely fail because of the ticket. He made himself impossible for many with his behavior during the election to succeed Simonetta Sommaruga (63).

On Monday, Graubünden’s state councilor Jon Pult (38) also took his place in the SP candidate carousel. While the other candidates are in their 50s, Pult, at 38, sees himself as a representative of the younger generation.

The Chur resident spoke Italian with his mother and Romansh with his father. “At school it is almost exclusively German,” says Pult in the Blick interview. “My main working language today is German, but I dream of being trilingual.”

It is still only men who want to inherit Berset. However, the SP leadership has made it clear that women can also stand as candidates. At the end of October, another SP member could break into the male bastion. It would be good if the SP would not simply propose a men’s group to the Federal Parliament. And if the party were to surprisingly have two women in the Federal Council, this image would certainly not be a disadvantage for it. That would look much more unpleasant for the SVP. When Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf (67), the first and so far only SVP member, accepted her election, the party rejected the Graubünden woman and her loyalists.

Others lost

For the Social Democrats, it would be anything but a no-go if someone from Graubünden came to power with an office. However, some SP players had more difficulty with a Roman. But Jositsch showed what can happen when someone makes something like this a state matter. And after all, others have already lost when they fought against someone with a messy haircut and glasses.
