With 109 votes in favor and 78 against and against the will of the SP, Greens and GLP, the Grand Chamber adopted a controversial proposal from its Committee for the Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy (Urek-N) on Tuesday. Municipalities with more than twenty percent of second homes should be able to convert old-fashioned homes more easily and use them for new purposes.
In concrete terms, this concerns buildings that were built before the second housing initiative was voted ‘yes’ in March 2012. In communities with more than twenty percent of second homes, such buildings are now only allowed to be renovated to a limited extent.
The Federal Council and a minority want the additional apartments created during demolition, reconstruction and expansion projects to be exclusively primary residences. National councilor Martin Candinas (centre/GR) initiated the proposal. (SDA)
