Përparim Avdili (36), chairman of the Zurich FDP, wants to become a member of the National Council. And not in any way, but James Bond style. The liberal politician from Zurich made a promotional video in which he meets James Bond himself at a bar in a tuxedo, toasts him and drinks a vodka martini.
When the bar employee asked whether he preferred his drink shaken or stirred, Avdili replied: “Preferably cumulated. Variegated leaves also work.”
With this variation on perhaps the most famous James Bond quote, he alludes to voting with lists, where you can write a candidate’s name on it a second time (cumulate) or mix it with other lists (variegate).
“I’m a big fan of James Bond. He is someone who tackles almost impossible missions with great charm and sympathy. I do the same and want to go to Bern with elegance and class,” says Avdili. That’s what he wanted to convey with the video.
The politician from Zurich spared no effort and hired a James Bond double (Daniel Craig edition) especially for the short clip. Bond is played in the election video by Martin Langanke (57), the ‘Swiss 007’ from Thurgau.
Avdili says: “Thanks to my large committee with over 300 members, I receive continued support. The same goes for video recordings. A friend from Winterthur came up with the idea of the double because he works with ‘James Bond’.”
A former school colleague of the FDP politician ultimately supported him within a very short time with the spontaneous idea with her agency in scripting and filming the video.
Despite the secret agent-style election campaign, the jump to Bern in October’s elections is unlikely to be an easy mission for Avdili. “My initial situation is known. From 15th place on the list, an election for Bern will not be an easy task. But anything is possible,” says Avdili.
If he wants to reach parliament, he must do everything he can to activate his personal environment. Just like his James Bond video was made: through friends and acquaintances who believed in him. (oko)
