2023 elections in Geneva: United citizens want to win a majority

It already worked during the elections in Geneva in the spring. Now the civil alliance also wants to gain a majority in the delegation in Federal Bern.

It should work together. Before the parliamentary elections on October 22, the SVP, FDP, Center and MCG (Mouvement Citoyens Genevois) joined forces to form the so-called “Alliance Genevoise”. Their goal: to put an end to the left-green majority of Geneva’s representatives in Federal Bern.

Only the GLP is trying to go it alone; she did not want to enter into an alliance with the SVP.

The delegation in Geneva consists of twelve members of the National Council. On the left, the Greens occupy three seats, the SP two and the left-wing radicals one. On the right, the FDP and the SVP each have two mandates, the center and the GLP one each.

While the camps in the National Council are balanced, the two seats of the Council of States, with Green Lisa Mazzone (35) and social democrat Carlo Sommaruga (64), are firmly in left-Green hands.

In the first round of voting, citizens still want to participate with their own candidacies, but in the second round they would like to agree on a common fate. If they actually find each other, they don’t stand a chance against the well-rehearsed Left-Green duo.

The civil alliance has confidence in it. After all, the strategy already worked during the cantonal elections in the spring. The common people are now once again setting the tone in the Geneva government. This should now also work in national elections.
