In concrete terms, the Federal Council is instructed to investigate all options together with the cantons and affected districts and to develop concrete proposals on how adequate care from general practitioners and specialists in all regions of Switzerland can be permanently guaranteed.
The government must submit all necessary legislative changes to parliament.
There has been a shortage of doctors in Switzerland for years, State Councilor Charles Juillard (center/JU) explained his proposal. The situation is particularly difficult in regions far from major urban centers.
His postulate is primarily aimed at ensuring that physicians who retire or give up their practice are replaced, Juillard said. It is not about expanding the number of medical practices indefinitely.
The Federal Council is prepared to examine the measures, as Federal President and Minister of Health Alain Berset assured the council. To achieve this, the cantons should be closely involved. They are responsible for organizing the healthcare system in Switzerland. (SDA)
