Donato Scognamiglio wants to be on the National Council.

Anyone who dreams of having their own home knows the face of Donato Scognamiglio (53). There will probably be a few more soon. The real estate expert is in demand when it comes to assessing the housing market. Now he wants to become a member of the National Council for the EPP. He pays a lot for this. He declared 365,000 francs to the Federal Audit Office, as the “Tages-Anzeiger” first reported.

These politicians have bulging campaign coffers

It is the largest election campaign budget announced to date. He replaces Andri Silberschmidt (29), who wants to spend 280,000 francs. Scognamiglio even spends more than his own canton party, which has only 215,000 francs at its disposal.

If no one in the canton council

Scognamiglio speaks to the ‘Tages-Anzeiger’ about a privilege ‘to be able to spend so much money once’. He pays for every hour someone works for him. A significant part of the expenditure goes to 300,000 to 400,000 flyers with which he draws attention to the home presentations he gives. He donates five francs per participant to the Zurich Children’s Hospital.

Scognamiglio is politicizing the right-wing edge of the EPP. Religion is personally important to him. “I stumble along and depend on God’s grace.” But he does not politicize with the gospel in his hand.

The EPP, together with Nik Gugger (53), already has one seat in the canton of Zurich, and even if one more seat will be added this year, it remains to be seen whether Scognamiglio will win it. But that wouldn’t be the first surprise. In February 2023, he was elected as a political nobody as a member of the canton council. (brother)
