Mass layoffs at the Red Cross! The organization announced on Monday that 270 jobs would be lost at the head office in Gend. In addition, an as yet unknown number of employees will be laid off worldwide.
The ICRC announced on Monday that adapting to economic realities will lead to further significant staff reductions in some locations. The extent of the impact on delegations around the world will become clear in November, when the 2024 budget procedures are concluded.
According to a press release, approximately 270 of the current 1,400 jobs at the Geneva headquarters are expected to disappear. The ICRC said it was “deeply concerned about the impact of a reduction in humanitarian assistance on people affected by armed conflict and violence.” Efforts are being made to reduce costs, increase organizational efficiency and maximize resources to fulfill core tasks.
