Sometimes police protection is needed: how enemies of the state fight against the Swiss authorities

The Confederation, cantons and municipalities consider those who refuse to go to state illegal.

The municipality of Andelfingen in Zurich is struggling with state objectors. In the eyes of these people, the state is a simulation, a secret construct behind which a company should hide. They consider all state organs illegal and therefore refuse to pay taxes, electricity and water.

This leads to a disproportionate amount of extra work for the authorities. In addition, there are huge threats against officials, write the Tamedia newspapers. The mayor of Andelfingen, Hansruedi Jucker, is concerned. In a newsletter he writes that collection documents sometimes have to be handed in under police protection. One individual is said to even store guns at home.

Authorities sweat

It should only be about four households scattered in the community. But because they actively resist, the authorities sweat. Because those who refuse send all their mail back to the mayor, because they see him as “director”. Because bills are not paid, the municipality has longer outstanding payments, says Jucker. Because the double reminder and the subsequent enforcement by attachment takes a lot of time.

‘The state objectors plead for the use of force’

The state objectors are a newer phenomenon that has gained momentum during the corona pandemic. There are now about 10,000 people who support the conspiracy theory, according to research by the Observer.

The Stankers radicalize themselves mainly in online forums. There they also exchange sample letters, which they then send to officials such as Hansruedi Jucker. In the case of Andelfingen, the troublemakers are demanding reimbursement of “taxes wrongly claimed, including interest.” It seems like they wanted to ruin the “company” Switzerland. (rba)
