Meret Schneider is back on Twitter.

Green Meret Schneider (31) is back on X (formerly Twitter). After being temporarily suspended due to a controversial tweet, her account is now accessible again.

“Friends, I’m back!” She says. “The solidarity and love I have experienced from so many of you leaves me speechless.” She is known for her level-headedness and dry demeanor, “but I cried because of news, as nice as many are behind me.”

Even her controversial post is visible again. With the caveat that the tweet “may violate Twitter rules on violent formulations” and that visibility is therefore limited. For example, the message can no longer be embedded.

She wrote of an article in the commuter newspaper ’20 Minutes’: ‘Now write your online commentary about why polarization and populism really are the bottom line and why these overpaid political faces should be hung on their own fucking federal patio! (Don’t forget capital letters) #populism.”

She commented on an article about the fact that the Swiss in particular are annoyed by the populism and polarization in the local political system.

satire, not violence

According to Schneider, she took this as satire. However, other users did not see it that way. This is how SVP Landraad member Andreas Glarner (60) responded to the said tweet. “If there are no consequences…”, he remarked. Shortly after, Schneider’s profile was blocked.

The social network had informed the country councilor that this was irrevocable because she had violated the violent wording directive. Now those responsible have apparently gone through the books again. (Russian)
