Campaign boss Marcel Dettling and SVP chairman Marco Chiesa are invited to the Gotthard.

It was a number that the SVP kept top secret until now. Unlike other parties, she refused to disclose information about her campaign budget. Until now.

4.5 million francs are currently available for this year’s election campaign, SVP national councilor Marcel Dettling announced today at an event on the Gotthard, according to the “Tages-Anzeiger”. And that should be even more. According to Dettling, it could ultimately be 5 to 6 million francs.

Parties must disclose their budget

The SVP was invited to the Gotthard Pass to provide information on their goals and activities related to the national and state elections on October 22. The sudden openness regarding the budget is not voluntary: parties and other actors with a budget of CHF 50,000 or more must now disclose how much money they have available for the election campaign.

The parties have until September 7 to report the figures to the Swiss Federal Audit Office. The information is publicly available.

The GLP has the least money

With a whopping 4.5 million francs, the SVP spends about twice as much as all the other parties. The FDP plans with 2.5 million Swiss francs, as the “Tages-Anzeiger” learned. In the middle there are 2 million, with the Greens after a million donation 1.6 million francs. The SP is investing 1.5 million francs in the election campaign. The planned budget for the GLP is the smallest at CHF 1 million.

This does not include the personal budgets of the individual candidates and cantonal parties. But these also need to be re-specified. St. Gallen’s Central National Councillor, Nicolò Paganini (57), was the first MP to announce his preliminary campaign budget. He has 54,000 francs at his disposal. But in the end the bill will be settled: After the elections, parties and candidates must provide the final figures. (lha)
