The number of illegal entries from Switzerland to Germany is increasing sharply.

Illegal entries from Switzerland to Germany continue to increase. This is evident from new figures from the German federal police, which the CDU politician Alexander Throm (54) requested from the German Ministry of the Interior and which the newspaper Welt has available.

In June of this year alone, a total of more than 7,200 people were detained for illegally entering Germany, mainly at the borders with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. That is 600 more than in the same month last year.

“Protection of Germany’s borders more urgent than ever”

For Throm, the case is clear: “Germany needs protection of its borders with Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland more urgently than ever,” he is quoted in the “Welt”.

Because the number of irregular migrations at the Swiss border also doubled in the same period compared to the previous year to almost 700. There are refugees from Afghanistan, migrants from Tunisia, India or Bangladesh.

Most illegal immigrants come to Switzerland via the Balkan route via Austria. But they don’t want to stay here. They use the freedom to travel in the Schengen area in order to continue their journey as quickly as possible, for example to Germany or France.

Baden-Württemberg has been particularly affected

Unauthorized entry across the Swiss border mainly affects the state of Baden-Württemberg. There they are not happy with the holes in the Swiss border.

Baden-Württemberg’s Interior Ministry recently told Blick: “In mid-December 2022, Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (62) urged the Federal Police to significantly tighten controls at the German-Swiss border to prevent illegal migration to counteract. .”

At the time, politicians demanded that Germany enter into negotiations with the Swiss Federal Council for effective border surveillance. The accusation against Switzerland: they allow migrants to flow unchecked.

More controls at the German-Swiss border

At the end of June, talks took place between the Swiss Minister of Justice Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (59) and the German Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (52).

Faeser explained at the time that there should be more checks at the German-Swiss border in the future. To this end, the German Federal Police will be strengthened and restructured. In addition, a new cooperation was agreed with the police of the state of Baden-Württemberg. (Okay)
