The Federal Council (from left to right): Albert Rösti, Karin Keller-Sutter, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, Viola Amherd, Chancellor Walter Thurnheer, Guy Parmelin, Ignazio Cassis and Alain Berset are on Thursday and Friday on the traditional journey of the Federal Council, which take them this year, the Canton of Friborg, the home of Federal President Alain Berset, leads.

It is the last trip of the Bundesrat for current Federal President Alain Berset (51) before he takes off his hat and resigns. A striking number of ministers wore headgear on sunny Thursday. In addition to Berset with his typical Borsalino, Guy Parmelin (63) with a floppy hat, Viola Amherd (61) with a straw hat and Ignazio Cassis (62) with a roof cap attracted attention.

First the members of the state government visited Schwarzsee FR, then the town of Murten FR. There, President Berset, speaking to the media, said it was important for the state government to meet with the population. It is also about being “stress free” with government colleagues for once.

A journey to relax

On Thursday afternoon, an aperitif with the locals was scheduled in the historic lakeside town of Murten. The government appeared dressed casually.

The trip was a first for two members of the Federal Council: Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (59) and Albert Rösti (55). After six months of intensive work, such a trip is good, both tell the Keystone-SDA news agency. The trip contributes to the recovery and functioning of the team, according to Rösti.

The network laughs

Baume-Schneider praised the friendliness of the citizens of Freiburg, who were very proud of their federal councilor Berset. Several members of the Federal Council have ties to the home canton of Berset, which resides in Belfaux FR.

In her youth, Baume-Schneider spent holidays in the Murten region. Viola Amherd studied at the University of Freiburg. Guy Parmelin completed his recruiting school at the Poya barracks in Freiburg and Karin Keller-Sutter visited Murten while studying in Neuchâtel.
