Because of Rimoldi’s stay in the closed foyer: parliamentarians demand a warning for SVP-Glarner

Nicolas Rimoldi’s stay in the closed foyer during Selenski’s speech would have consequences.

When Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (45) addressed parliament via video, all eyes were on the leader of the anti-Russian resistance. Even many members of the SVP faction, who were not present in the room, admitted to hearing the speech.

But nobody looked at him: Nicolas Rimoldi (28). During the speech, he stood in the closed lobby. Together with some police officers, who probably assumed that Rimoldi was a member of parliament, otherwise he would not have entered the locked room.

The critic of the Corona measures wants to run for the national council next fall, but so far he has not been in parliament.

consequences demanded

Rimoldi was the guest of a parliamentarian. Probably from SVP National Councilor Andreas Glarner (60). At least he doesn’t deny it. But Glarner should have accompanied his guest Rimoldi – which he didn’t. The Aargauer SVPler is therefore partly responsible for Rimoldi being able to undo the security measures in the Federal Palace.

For the GLP co-founder and former president Martin Bäumle (59), the violation of the safety regulations in the Bundespaleis cannot remain without consequences. And the group chairman, Philipp Matthias Bregy (44), also assumes that the parliamentary leadership will not just handle the day-to-day business.

Glarner should be reprimanded

Bäumle assumes that Rimoldi deliberately bypassed the lobby’s block. “In my opinion, this should have certain consequences for Mr. Rimoldi,” he says.

And: «Which member of the National Council or the Council of States always received Mr. Rimoldi as a guest in the Federal Palace was responsible for him. He or she should have ensured that the visitor left the balcony of the Bundeshaus and the lobby during Selenski’s speech. Since this obviously did not happen, I expect the responsible Member of Parliament to be warned,” the GLPer said.

“Yellow card”

And center group chairman Bregy resolutely expects the leadership of the two councils to remind all MPs of their duties when they receive a guest. “Especially the one Mr. Rimoldi received.”

However, the former Green Liberals party chairman warns that all the other 199 national councilors will now have to pay for someone else’s mistake – “and a huge bureaucratic effort is being made”. It is right to continue to rely on personal responsibility. “But: if someone does not take his responsibility seriously, you must show him the yellow card.”

“Not so important”

Bäumle also has little understanding for the fact that the accredited journalists in the Bundeshaus were shortly excluded from the lobby. “Although this is only a minor infringement of press freedom, with this step the parliamentary leadership shows that the work of media professionals is apparently not taken too seriously and that even their guaranteed rights can be temporarily disregarded.” A worrying signal for the National Council.
