As early as April 13, the Edöb started a preliminary investigation into BASF employees’ access to Fedpol’s national wanted register Ripol, announced Wednesday. During the preliminary clarification, both federal services took a position.
The suspicion of violations of data protection law arose due to the question of the “Aargauer Zeitung” about the legality of the BASF accesses.
The two federal agencies finally informed the Edöb in early June that the collaboration with the hacked software provider Xplain had led to data security violations with potentially high risks for those affected.
