The seats on the right side of the National Council Chamber remained empty when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, 45, addressed parliament yesterday. With the exception of two MPs, the SVP boycotted the virtual speech.

While the SVP demonstratively shone with their absence, another took the opportunity to put themselves in the spotlight: Corona measure critic Nicolas Rimoldi (28). The former FDP member and chairman of the Mass-Voll movement, which was founded at the start of the corona pandemic, walked unimpeded through the lobby at the Federal Palace on Thursday afternoon during Selenski’s speech – while media professionals, lobbyists and party officials had access to it “for security reasons” was prohibited.

Glarner does not deny

When Blick asked about it yesterday, Rimoldi would not say which parliamentarian had invited him to the Federal Palace. In the Bundeshaus it was quickly circulated who it was: SVP national councilor Andreas Glarner (60).

The Aargauer does not deny Blick that Rimoldi was his guest at the Federal Palace. He doesn’t want to comment on the whole thing, he just says.

Glarner will therefore be careful not to gossip about his visit, knowing full well that parliamentarians should not leave their visit to the Federal Palace unattended. He says that’s what security personnel told Rimoldi as he walked out of the lobby alone on Thursday afternoon.

Parliamentary services are examining measures

On request, the parliamentary services will say they are aware of the “case”. “It will be analyzed internally and action will be taken if necessary,” it says. Authorities have not commented on whether Glarner was threatened with consequences.

They only state that the council members take responsibility for their guests. “This responsibility is not described in detail, we assume in principle that, in particular, the functioning of the municipality must not be disrupted in any way, that guests do not endanger safety, do not cause damage to the facilities and the building and follow the instructions of the staff.” at all times. »

Exclusion zone for journalists

The parliamentary services did not want to say yesterday why the foyer, which is freely accessible to accredited persons, was closed to everyone except parliamentarians before and during Selenski’s speech. The association of federal house journalists therefore sent a protest note to the directorate of the National Council and the Council of States and to the administration.
