As part of its extraordinary session on equality, the Council of States has decided that Swiss companies with more than 50 employees are not required to conduct an internal pay equality analysis.
With 26 votes in favor and 14 against, with two abstentions, the Stöckli rejected a corresponding motion by Basel SP councilor Eva Herzog (61) on Wednesday. With that, the advance is over.
Since the summer of 2021, companies in Switzerland must compare the wages of female and male employees if the company employs more than 100 people. That’s what the federal councilors have determined.
Herzog argued that the scope of the Equality Act supplemented by this provision was “still very weak”. Only a minority of companies are affected and only a minority of employees.
