The aircraft made 635 hours, the Ministry of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (VBS) announced on Tuesday. The state government accounted for 396 hours. Parliament and departments took 239 hours to complete.

The helicopters flew for 108 hours, divided into 76 hours for members of the Bundesrat and 32 hours for parliament and departments. The federal government obtained 13 flight hours from a civilian provider because its own jets were not available.

Of the Federal Council members, Foreign Minister and then Federal President Ignazio Cassis flew the most with 135 hours. He was followed by then Finance Minister Ueli Maurer by about 73 hours.

DDPS head Viola Amherd used the plane for 67 hours, EDI boss Alain Berset for 50 hours, Justice minister Karin Keller-Sutter for 42 hours and Economics minister Guy Parmelin for 37 hours.

The air travel record of the then environment minister Simonetta Sommaruga was the most modest at 25 hours. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also tops the list per department. The plane flew empty for 42 hours.

The Federal Air Transport Service (LTDB) is an Air Force military formation based at Bern-Belp Airport. In addition to his work for the government, departments and parliament, he can also assist in disasters, humanitarian calamities and the like.

The Federal Council justifies the use of the service with the security standard, short-term availability, representative effect and discretion. The CO2 emissions of LTDB flights are fully offset by certificates. In addition, the intention is to add more and more sustainable fuel in addition to fossil fuels.

The LTDB fleet consists of two jets, a Cessna Citation Excel 560XL and a Dassault Falcon 900EX. There are also two turboprop machines and two helicopters. In October, the federal government sold Pilatus-Flugzeugwerke’s PC-24 jet to a private company. (SDA)
