“Swiss neutrality is not a good idea,” Liz Truss told the NZZ.

She was only in office for six weeks as Prime Minister of Great Britain. Then Liz Truss (47) resigned from her position. Since then, the conservative politician has had more time and spent several days in Switzerland. This week she visited the Swiss Economic Forum (SEF) in Interlaken.

There she told the Neue Zürcher Zeitung that she did not like Switzerland’s attitude to the Russian war: “Swiss neutrality is not a good idea. I don’t understand how you can be neutral between China and Russia on the one hand and Europe,” she told the Swiss newspaper on the sidelines of the SEF.

“We must do more”

Even though Truss expressly welcomes Switzerland’s participation in the sanctions against Russia, she believes that is not enough. “The threat to free democracies is greater than it has been in years. We all need to do more. This is the most important battle of our time,” she says.

It is not known whether Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis (62) was able to explain the Swiss position to her later. But what is known is that the two met. A tweet from Cassis bears witness to this as well. According to reports, they should also understand each other very well. In Wednesday’s tweet, Cassis wrote that it was “a pleasure” to meet his former British counterpart.

It is not the first time that Swiss neutrality has come under attack from abroad. Time and again, the Swiss Federal Councilors abroad are accused of not doing enough. (she)
