With 103 votes in favour, 76 against and 11 abstentions, the Grand Chamber on Thursday accepted a proposal from its finance committee to reduce the additional appropriation requested by the Bundesrat to CHF 66.45 million.
Now the Council of States has to consider the compromise proposal, which originally came from its own financial committee, for the second time. The responsible Minister of Justice Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (59) can continue to hope for a solution.
The decision of the National Council should be understood as a tactical move. Because in the first week of the summer session, the National Council had actually already approved the entire loan of CHF 132.9 million.
The Council of States, on the other hand, rejected the additional credit during the first consultation – and at the second attempt on Tuesday by 23 against 19 also the proposal to approve only half of the funds. Now the idea is back on the table. (SDA)
