La Selic is launching a “criminology” section that will bring together experts in the noir genre in Santiago

Detail of Selić edition 2019. Author: Xoan A. Soler

Diego Ameixeiras, Pedro Feijoo, Arantza Portabales, Lorenzo Silva, Cristina Morales and Olga Novo, among his protagonists

Compostela Book Week (Selic) will hold its seventh edition from June 9 to 18 in Santiago. It will do this by returning to its sources in terms of location — it will have Plaza da Quintana as the setting, as in the first two parts — and with novelties, such as the premiere of the Criminal17th and 18th, which, coordinated by Professor Xaquín Núñez Sabarís, aims to be at the center of the black genre in Galicia.

In this new section, they will have reference authors on the Iberian Peninsula. Thus, the Galicians Diego Ameixeiras, Pedro Feijoo, Arantza Portabales and Patricia A. Janeiro will be joined by names such as Lorenzo Silva and the two main Portuguese authors, Francisco J. Viegas and Francisco Moita Flores. In this part, there will also be room for audiovisuals, with guests such as screenwriter Pepe Coira.

In addition to the news, this reading festival, organized by the city council of Santiago, will expand its space, hosting 26 bookstores and publishers. In addition, programming will grow with an average of six activities per day, including a daily walk. Prestigious Galician and international writers will also pass through it, as is the case with Cristina Morales — the author easy readingwinner of the National Award for Storytelling 2019—and Italian bestseller Bernardo Zannoni.

But the Selić program, led by journalist and writer Camilo Franco, goes far beyond the book and the signing of copies. In this way, it connects reading with other disciplines such as music, theater and audiovisual media. As for music, this year Madrid singer-songwriter Cristina Rosenvinge and Mozambican João Afonso stand out. In addition, the recital concert will bring together the poet Olga Novo and the singer-songwriter Su Garrido Pomba in an activity developed at the suggestion of Selić. There will also be a dramatization of about the lightDavid Rubín, directed by actor Xosé Barat performance de Chéver that will give us access to his published work.
