Sounds like a belated April Fool’s joke: SBB & Co. are raising the price of first class by 1.9% and second class by 4.8%. Alliance Swiss Pass doesn’t seem to want to expect wealthy people to do what it requires of the wood class. Responsible persons have lost all idea of what can and cannot be demanded.
What is particularly outrageous about this asymmetrical elevation is the justification. The French Queen Marie Antoinette (1755-1793) is mistakenly credited with the phrase: “If you have no bread, then you must eat cake!” The Swiss Pass says: “We want to make 1st class more accessible and attractive and create more seats for 2nd class.”
Redistribution from the bottom up – is it possible? Swiss Pass strategists better think about how to end the chaos in second grade. From overcrowding in the Intercity to nausea in the S-Bahn, every passenger has a story to tell. In addition, the Swiss Pass lobby usually sends the wrong signals about price increases. Or does she seriously believe that this will bring her closer to the goals of the Federal Council? In fact, he wanted to increase the speed of public transport. Since 2007, practically nothing has changed in the share of public transport in the total volume of traffic.
Of course, no one wants to take Deutsche Bahn as a model with its dilapidated infrastructure and constant delays. But the question is resolved: if Germany introduces a ticket for 49 euros (588 francs, an annual flat rate in regional transport), and Austria introduces a climate ticket (annual price of 1038 francs, a flat rate including long-distance transport), then why Switzerland, a rail nation that increases prices?
Shouldn’t we change our energy consumption because of Putin’s war of aggression? And in general: shouldn’t we emit less CO₂? How was it again with the Paris climate targets?
Swiss public transport is considered one of the best in the world. However, it should become even more attractive, even better and even cheaper. It is legal to subsidize it even more. The climate must be decent for us. And if Swiss Pass fails to do so, politicians will have to adjust the framework conditions in favor of public transport.
Fortunately, the members of the Swiss Pass Alliance have not yet approved the fares. This opens up a chance to refuse rotten Easter eggs. The railway nation of Switzerland must move forward. Enough if the banks are shaking.
