Those who turn 18 in 2023 can request help of 400 euros from the cultural bonus

Young people who turn 18 in 2023 will be able to enjoy a youth cultural voucher and its 400-euro bag. The Council of Ministers approved this Monday the royal decree regulating the second edition. It is estimated that in 2023, around 500,000 young people will turn 18, and those who request it will have access to aid of 400 euros for the purchase of cultural products, services and activities. Among them are the bulls, included after the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the appeal filed by the Fundación Toro de Lidia.

In the first edition, 281,557 young people who turned 18 in 2022 requested a voucher. This represents 57.60% of the population of that age, i.e. 488,794 people according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The bonus is one of the great measures of Miquela Iceta’s department, although the difficulty of accessing help given the computational complexity of the process limits its application. Those who receive it in 2023 will be able to spend a maximum of €200 on cultural heritage and audiovisual arts split between tickets and subscriptions to performing arts, live music, cinemas, museums, libraries, exhibitions, stage, literary, music or audiovisual festivals and shows fights with bulls

Up to 100 euros can be allocated to books, magazines, press or other periodicals; video games, sheet music, records, CDs, DVDs or Blu-rays. An additional 100 euros can be devoted to digital or internet consumption: subscriptions and rental of music, reading or audiovisual platforms, purchase of audiobooks, e-books, subscriptions for downloading multimedia files (podcasts), online video games, digital for print, magazines or other periodicals limited to a maximum of four months.

It will not be acceptable to purchase handicrafts, plastic and graphic products; printed matter; printed or digital curriculum textbooks; courses, workshops and seminars; computer and electronic equipment, software, hardware and consumables; art supplies; musical instruments; sports shows; fashion and gastronomy. Nor the acquisition of products rated X or pornographic in accordance with the content regulation system that applies to each product.

Eligible activities and expenses must be carried out within a maximum period of one year from the award of the voucher. With its application for the second year in a row, the Government “intends to promote universal and diverse access to culture by young people, create and strengthen consumption habits of cultural products, create new audiences, stimulate demand and strengthen and consolidate the revitalization of the culture sector in Spain. “It is a bonus intended for young people . It is the reception of adulthood and its connection with culture, to build a more critical and engaged society. I understand that there will be people who may not need it and may not seek it, but, without a doubt, there are many Spanish families where access to culture and the possibility to dedicate such an important amount to their children is well accepted and appreciated,” said the minister.
