Women leaders: 5 principles that shape protagonists

Throughout history, and thanks to the fight for gender equality, today women have managed to take on more important roles in society. That’s why today we see more and more entrepreneurs, executives in high positions, presidents of states or directors for large companies.

Equal opportunities in education and in the workplace, better working conditions and the fight against discrimination in employment promoted women’s leadership as
foundation pillar within current organizational culture, because of the value that diversity brings Business field.

In Latin America we have very good examples in countries like Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica and Uruguayareas where the rate of progress of women entrepreneurs has reached
outperform economies like Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. According to the Global Report Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2020-21, three Latin American countries
with the highest percentage of female entrepreneurs in the initial phase of business Colombia with 30.2%, Panama with 29.1% and Guatemala with 25.5%.

With the increasing number of women and more women in leadership roles, it is important to highlight some principles that will allow us to train ourselves to be better guides
our teams. I take it as a reference vision of James Kerr where he lists these important steps in his book ‘Legacy, 15 Leadership Lessons’. Below are those who
I find it more relevant.

1. Keep your feet on the ground. we are never too big Doing the little things that need to be done. There is no ‘minimum’ task. Regardless of the position we have, it is important to be available for any job, be it team or individual.

2. Lead with purpose. We always ask: ‘because?’. Being a good leader and having a good work team is only part of the success equation. It is important to be clear that the associates of the organization must be on the same page to help form strong groups. Therefore, it is necessary to understand common goals.

Many times having good skills can be ineffective if you don’t know what you want to achieve. Why? And for what? These are the primal questions to lay the foundation for this construction of purpose.

3. Delegated functions. Leaders create leaders. In companies, the president is only a business leader, but successful teams have leaders in all areas. Delegate responsibilities and help your team delegate effectively.

4. Create an environment of learning. Leaders are teachers. Companies want teams of motivated to work, people with a desire to learn and developThey are constantly trying to improve. However, this does not mean that teaching is the sole responsibility of the leader. True leaders actively encourage teams to share and teach each other, while maintaining a competitive environment in which knowledge and learning are factors of self-motivation.

5. Keep a cool head. Control your attention. in work There is always a high demand for competence, a good leader is able to make decisions under pressure, which will ultimately give the company and the team a better chance of success.

Decision-making is a difficult skill to learn and develops over time, and staying calm when tensions rise is a big step forwardcorrect direction.
Knowing
your capabilities and self-reliance in pressure situations becomes critical. Doing the extra work will make all the difference.

When you understand that good leadership is constantly being built, the leader’s vision is being transformed. As women in leadership roles, we must not only acquire skills that guide our personal development, but also actively be drivers of our own growth.
