Ferrol’s Menin is coming to cinemas: “There’s fun and entertainment”

Author: JOSE PARDO

“Welcome, Mr. Banksy” revolves around the “fascinating” Edu Hermida

As in F. for False by Orson Welles, Welcome Mr. Banksy leaves the viewer in the intrigue of truth or fiction. Did Banksy land in the Canido district to immortalize the kiss of two civilian guards? The graffiti was reproduced in 2018, in the full rage of Las Meninas. And just as the mystery artist (who has been credited with identities such as Massive Attack singer Roberto Del Najo) has been invited to participate with posters across England. The documentary shows a cultural and advertising phenomenon Carlos E. Quiros, which arrives in Galician cinemas this Friday. For the director, who produced himself through his company Cuerda Floja, «Everything revolves around the fascinating Eduardo Hermida, who gave us the film with his generosity».

Hermida started Las Meninas in 2008 and still didn’t “realize how quickly such a modest project has grown and is going around the world thanks to the work of Carlos E. Quirós.” There is fun and some “troule” in the work.. “TO critical film or art marketing, and let’s join the car of self-parody: there is intrigue about the identity of the graffiti, some fun and troule, funny moments like those when the neighbors analyze whether the work is really Banksy’s», says Quirós. The story begins in a city “cinematic like Ferrol, polarized with the classicism of the center and workers of Caranza”.

Quirós is clear «It is to Hermida’s great credit to transform a neighborhood that was in decline into a place where everyone wants to live». And celebrate”The miracle of reaching Galician cinemas without help, without a dry period from Agadic, who said that it has no commercial possibilities». Welcome Mr. Banksy It has gone through festivals all over the world, aired on platforms like Filmin and works as a game: «It’s a fake documentary, but it’s not a fake documentary, we’re breaking the fourth wall». Cuerda Floja has been active for seven years, also as a producer for TVG, and now works on more «guerilla cinema, like rural longametrexes».

About her juicy appearance in the documentary, Hermida admits: “At first I didn’t like to see myself, but I said everything bravely and with my heart… and we will never know who painted the Civil Guard. It certainly wasn’t me». And who knows if Del Naja finally walked down Muíño de Vento street five years ago covered in green spray?
