Huawei and the goal of 5.5G: speeds of 10 gigabits managed to reduce electricity consumption by ten

Author: HA

The Chinese company is leading solutions for the next generation of mobile communications, including new private 5G networks and new antennas that allow the network to be used as a sensor.

Although it has been moved up in the seller’s ranking smart phones, Huawei still has one of the largest pavilions in World Mobile Congressthat this Monday was full of people. The Chinese company is very advanced in 5.5G or 5G Advancewhich is planned for the end of 2024 and which will be a technology halfway to 6G, which won’t arrive until 2030. To achieve this, it has a new type of antenna that can offer speeds of 10 Gbps and also reduce electricity consumption tenfold. They are not only used for communication, but also enable the use of the network as a sensor and work with IoT devices without a battery, with a coverage of 200-250 meters. In this way, for example, it will be possible to carry out a logistics inventory of a factory — which now requires a worker to spend hours scanning each product with a machine — with the simple push of a button.

The network as a sensor also allows antennas to detect moving objects and their speed, so it can monitor traffic, warn if an accident occurs, and reroute traffic. Or spot network vibration issues and prevent crashes; or temperature, humidity or voltage, and thus act before the tube bursts or an overload occurs in the high-voltage line.

In a one-hour tour stand from Huawei can be seen 3D videos without glasses —eyes adjust in a second—, transmissions where a multi-camera system allows us to choose the point of view of matches or concerts and technologies that guarantee low latency for greater bandwidth, so that journalists or influential persons They can do their work without interruption.

Another area the Shenzhen company is leading is private 5G networks, which have doubled in the past five months. There are two types: wide area, which uses public antennas and through which a local sports club can broadcast its matches thanks to this infrastructure and group of cameras; and the campus, independent antennas with which the factory can have the entire production chain with sensors connected and adapted to the needs of each sector: ports, mining, manufacturing, chemical industry… Although the consumer does not perceive it, it is a revolution for companies.

Huawei’s energy efficiency strategy adopts a “zero bits, zero watts” philosophy, whereby the antennas, ports, switches and power of its products can be turned off when there is no user traffic and turned on when demand returns.

Huawei launches a program to accelerate Spanish startups

Huawei has launched the Huawei Cloud Start-up Program, which it developed in collaboration with the Spanish funding support platform FundinBox, with the aim of offering emerging companies (startups) Spanish support for its digitization, international expansion and financing. The initiative, presented by the companies at (MWC) in Barcelona, will target emerging companies developing technology solutions in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, data analytics, blockchain, web3 or software as a service (SaaS).

Through this program, FundinBox and Huawei will offer technical expertise, a platform for international expansion and financing opportunities. In addition, startups will receive Huawei Cloud loans of up to $120,000 (almost €114,000), as well as technical support from a dedicated engineering team.
