The aftermath of the lockdown riots

Our naivety and ability to manipulate is surprising people demonstrated in riots and street closures in both 2022 and 2023.

In both cases, the trigger was citizens’ dissatisfaction with the unbridled and obvious corruption that our leaders displayed in the last three governments. But also Marxist ultra-left, call it SUNTRACS and their allies, the Indians, groups of educators and to a lesser extent tiny groups of doctors; They used these movements to try to portray themselves as the people’s defenders and hurt the country’s economy with their detentions and abuses of all kinds, including blatant vandalism.

In both periods of instability, it was sold that some significant progress had been made, when in fact, apart from the ban on metal mining in the country and the decree to close the mines in Donos; On this occasion the only final thing was the possibility of harm economy would become millionaires and greatly affect our image as a country that respects investors and legal security of foreign investments.

The egos of several lawyers and politicians who had more than their 15 minutes of fame were hurt millions of economic losses what the country suffered in those days, in both periods of instability.

Apart from the mentioned, a very large group young people protested peacefully and also spread a lot of information during the protest, which gives hope for more seriousness in the population. What is important, in my opinion, is not so much what has already happened, but what will happen or can happen.  It was not possible to raise the awareness of the population to vote smarter for candidates with clear proposals; It only confirms the possibility of emotional manipulation of them, without requiring from those who encouraged them to act, proof or guarantee that they will do so in good faith, only to take their word for it and what is said on social networks.

 The upcoming political campaign will obviously be burdened by other emotional manipulations through social networks than based on asking candidates to present reasonable government plans; but simply that they insult each other (the famous Pa’Tras) and yes they amuse the electorate with their barricade oratory gymnastics and empty promisesto make a new media show without any support.

 Very serious questions social security and a disproportionate increase in debt due to flagrant clientelism, They are going to have to start being addressed in some way, and I honestly don’t see how the government coming in as a result of the 2024 election is going to do that; if vigorous measures are not taken that have a political price, such as revision of the labor law, democratization of education and decentralization (educational vouchers), debureaucratization of the national government (bottle-breaking) and deregulation of economic activities in the country in order not to continue lowering the economic rate freedom; if he does not climb them.

All of the above is difficult……and may lead to more street closures. In short, I am not at all optimistic about the country’s economic future, especially during 2024; I hope I’m wrong, but I doubt it.
