For once, Putin has reason to rejoice

Not so long ago, optimism reigned in the West. After the aggressive war against Ukraine, (powerful) wealthy Russians were sanctioned: accounts were frozen, travel bans were imposed, business deals were cancelled. Domestic political chaos flared up around the dictator Vladimir Putin. In addition, the Ukrainians defended themselves courageously and uncompromisingly. Sometimes, thanks to the military support of Western countries, they were able to achieve success on the battlefield.

But now Putin’s venom is increasingly felt in Europe. The UK is in turmoil after Prime Minister Liz Truss vomited a beggar after just 45 days. This is mainly due to financial policy, which is complicated not least by the fact that Russia cuts off the energy supply to the West. In addition, France is rocked by incessant protests.

This is partly due to climate change, but especially to the increase in the cost of living due to the war. In Germany, too, more and more political discontent is spreading. The question arises: shouldn’t politicians have foreseen the coming energy catastrophe? The now sabotaged Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was built when Russia annexed Crimea. And Switzerland is also trembling before winter.

Undoubtedly: Putin can be anything but not satisfied with the course of his war. But the Kremlin will certainly raise a toast to the current situation in Europe.
